alot has happened over the past 2 days
19/4/25 6:27pm
feeling: joyus
I went to the barbican, had a honest burger for the first time, got a free ticket to the opening screening of sinners where the leads and composer of the film introduced it as well as seeing it in the perferred format and got to hang out with some friends through it all!!
sorry about the glare in some of these photos btw
17/4/25- Barbican, burgers and hotels
So, I finally meet up with some friends. theyre people i met at a film festival and i've made it a goal of mine to actually get up and ask people to hang out instead of waiting for them to do so.
we went to the barbican - i've never been before - to attend a exhibition on Black British Music. I didnt take many photos as it was in the library and loads of people wanted to see so it was abit crowded but i'll still show a few below!

photo 1: the utilisation of tech like the nokia 7600 and the PS1 in the grime music scene
photo 2: the black british music scene in the mid 70s to the late 80s. on the far right is the sade album "diamond life", in frame is a magazine showcasing ads for discos and dance nights in the 80s. super cheap entry!!!

Photo 1: Dedicated to SOUL 2 SOUL
Photo 2: People's favourite record stores in London (many of which have shut down

photo 1: Shirley Thompson, Eddy Grant and Sterling Betancourt
photo 2: Various Magazine covers.
The exhibition took place in a media library, and there was a ABUNDANCE of cd's, dvds and ofc books to look at. here are a few snaps i got while i was there

These CD's were found in the area closest to the exhibition so more black british musicians i like!
Photo 1: Rhoda Dakar's latest album "Version Girl"(2023). the art is so cute!
Photo 2: Joan Armatrading's "Not Too Far Away" (2018) She's labelled as pop here but shes a rock musician? The labelling at this library was really weird actually

see what im talking about? Parliament - Mothership Connection, Hole - Live Through This, A Women in PUNK compilation CD and Genesis - The Last Domino all labelled pop? when they are resepctfully - funk rock, grunge/alt rock, punk and rock, it irritated me a little.

also went to the film and tv section and found some star trek box sets! 2 OG series, one Next Gen, 2 Strange New Worlds and alot of Voyager.... interesting
one of my friends borrowed Twin Peaks, shes been trying to get through David Lynch's (RIP) filmography.
we then started getting hungry. we found a honest burger. I got the Tribute burger. it was good enough. Way too expensive for what I got tho (no drink included in the meal!!)
We had missed the lunch time deal y 10 minutes but the manager refused to let us have it so i paid £15 for a burger and fries. This is a place people rave about so much i wasn't that impressed when i finally tried it.

photo 2: some art i found that i really like :p
One friend had to leave early so it was just me another friend. She got a text message while we were eating about a secial screning for "Government Cheese" that had q&a with the lead actor David Oyelowo but the tickets were first come first serve.
luckily we had 2 hrs to get to the venue so we walked it because it was a hour walk from the resturant.
we finally got to this beautiful hotel (SOHO HOTEL)
and waited but we didnt get the ticket as all the seats were gone. But in turn we ended up getting FREE TICKETS TO THE OPENING NIGHT SCREENING OF "SINNERS" IN 70MM IMAX!!! FOR FREE!!! mind you these tickets cost like £24... that leads me on to day 2...
18/4/25 - SINNERS VIEWING IN THE BEST FORMAT WITH SOME SPECIAL GUESTS
OK so, on tuesday if you read my entry, you'd know that "Sinners" is best viewed in IMAX in 70mm so you have the real immersive expierence.
and if you know anything about IMAX is that those tickets dont come cheap. and i got to see it for free! in all of its glory.
lets start with what i wore: for context, Sinners is a southern gothic tale about vampires. thats all im going to tell you for now. I wore a black lacey two piece with some boots and a few nacklaces to the screening. i still have bad hayfever so i couldnt put on any eye makeup because it would just irritate my eyes even more, and also because of this i decided to go with some sunglasses as my spectacles for the night (i took them off and wore my normal glasses when the film actually started
the BFI IMAX is a cinema i've wanted to go to since i was child. and i finally got to go! usually there would be a film advertising on the building but yesterday it was a fucking KFC gravy pot...
are they being fucking serious...?
i read my issue of fangoria magazine on the bus journey there. it was such a long journey i fell asleep on the first bus i had to catch (i had to catch 3 buses but it was worth it)
idk why i keep my magazines in plastic covers but i like it this way. they stay protected.
anyways, there were Sinners posters and pop ups EVERYWHERE. and the actual screen was magnificant. literally from floor to the ceiling. i knew the film would look incredible on it.

ok the first thing to leave me stunned that night: MICHEAL B JORDAN, WUNMI MOSAKU AND LUDWIG GÖRANSSON (the composer of the score for the film and is riding off his oscar win for his work for OPPENHEIMER) INTRODUCED THE FILM!! The director couldnt make it because it was his wife's birthday but it was still a lovely surprise. my phone decided to UPDATE when they came out so i almost started screaming. I did get a few photos and videos which is satisfying me enough.

I'm not going to say much about the film but i will link my review here for you to read. the film is INCREDIBLE. like i was left speechless and made me cry multiple times. its one of those films that reminds me of why i want to be a filmmaker and why i love art and film and music. and it was honestly the perfect film to transtion to after the black british music exhibit, from that to a film that touches on the topic of how influencial african and black american music is and has been on modern music.
so i had a really nice end to my week. im still riding the high from seeing "Sinners".
